Information-Seeking Behaviour and Information Use By Students of the Department of Information Studies, University of Ghana, Legon

Abstract

This study attempts an assessment of the information seeking behaviour and information use of the students of the Department of Information Studies (DIS) of University of Ghana, Legon. it reviews the various information sources available to the students during the period of their studies at the university. The study was carried out through the administration of questionnaires, interviews and a review of records on file. The analysis of the data gathered revealed that the information seeking behaviour and information use by the students of DIS were greatly
determined by the students' curricula needs. The curricula information needs resulted from study tasks given the students by lecturers in various subject areas taught. The main sources of information available to the students are books while journals are the sources mostfrequently not available. There is the need for the provision of current speCialized books and journals on hbrarianship, archival studies and information science, which form the core of their curricula.
