The paper emphasizes tile need to maJre use of science and technology
(S. & T.) information in thie economic and social development of Ghana. The S. & T. generated locally is likely to be most pertinent because it is based principally on the national development programmes. Where imported technologies are appropriate they could also be adapted for use. Typically, users' needs would be in the areas of (i) scientific and technical information which enables research,; learning and technical decision; (ii) operational information needed to promote production and services, and; (iii) policy and decision-making information which enable choices of altemative strategies. Existing national information resources are far indequate to satisfy users' needs because of serious inadequacies and gaps, and so require urgent re-organization. The author, therefore suggests the establishment of National S. & T. lnformation Network based on co-operation among libraries/information centres.
